My girlfriend informed me today that Wil Wheaton saw my post on TBBT.
Someone posted it in the comments section of his website a while back.
He replied that “ You don’t have to apologize for liking something because someone needs to feel important by attempting to tear it down.”
Firstly, I’m pretty sure he didn’t read it, at least not all the way through, as I specifically stated that I wasn’t trying to say anyone shouldn’t like it, just explaining why I didn’t.
And secondly, more importantly: yes Wil Wheaton, I do feel important and your insinuation that I am not - purely because I pointed out the ways in which your programme repeatedly fails its supposed demographic and is abhorrently racist, misogynist, transphobic, homophobic and abelist - is kind of petty don’t you think?
I would have hoped that someone who I’ve always thought of as rather intelligent and rational, would be able to take honest criticism better than that.
I would also be very interested to hear him defend the frankly sickening lows TBBT has sunk to. I’d really love to hear why he thinks making jokes about slavery to Regina King’s character is acceptable, why TBBT’s consistent use of the “and then he found out she was a dude!” “punchline” is funny and - considering his close working friendship with Felicia Day - why he thinks that three women walking into a comic book store is a joke in itself.
Don’t Be A Dick applies to you as well Wil. And quite frankly, The Big Bang Theory is pretty permanently set to dickish.
